Bible Proof That We Must Not Watch Television
Posted by admin on Jul 23, 2010 in Bible Studies, Good Examples of Bad Exegesis • 2 commentsWhen my brother-in-law was in college, he was listening to AM radio one day and heard a preacher come on the radio. The preacher stated that God had given him a scripture to prove that Christians are not supposed to watch TV. Enthralled, my brother-in-law left the radio on.
The minister read from the passage where Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James and John. Then, after the transfiguration, on the way down the mountain, Jesus commanded his disciples ..
(are you ready for this?)
“Tell the vision to no man.”
So the preacher expounded his whole sermon by rapidly quoting the passage above, “Television to no man.”
Isn’t that great?
Another good example of bad exegesis.

Love it!
That preacher was obviously wrong because God in his omniscience very clearly gave us good advice through the prophet Habakkuk regarding maintaining a clear picture on our TV’s when he said, “Right the vision and make it plain…”
