Miryam bath Heli, in one sense of the word, was the most important person that ever lived. We know her as Mary, the mother of Jesus. She was the daughter of Heli (bath Heli). She was very young and already betrothed to be married; but she was chosen by God to be the mother of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mary must have been shocked beyond imagination when the angel Gabriel appeared in her humble dwelling in Nazareth and began to speak to her. When he said, “Greetings, Highly Favored One, the Lord is with you: Blessed are you among women,” she was troubled and did not know what to think and apparently feared what might be coming, because the first thing Gabriel told her was not to fear.
Then Gabriel gave Mary the message he had been sent to deliver. He said, “Remember what I am telling you and do ...

I awoke this morning to find an envelope from my 5 year old labeled “To Dad” beside my head. I was going to reach for my Bible first as is my habit, but felt that I should open his letter first. I’m glad I did. I spent a while just looking at the picture and marveling at the simplicity and truth in it. I’m sharing it with you in the hopes that it will give you pause for thought. It might be easier to print it if your screen is small.

Some Explanation of the Picture

In the picture, on the right is a “bragger.” He has a frown on his face.
In the middle is Jesus, who is smiling — even in the pain of death — and who is saying, “You will.” This ...

This third poem was sent in with the request to publish it “Name Withheld.” Even as a believer, people sometimes lose sight of who they are and what God says about them. I’m posting it here as a reminder that even in the seeming comfort of the church there are still struggles. People with real problems attend our churches and need to know HOW to find the answer in Jesus Christ.
If Only You Knew
Bitter, angry, alone,
Scared of the unknown.
Confused, messed up, hurt,
Feeling less than a piece of dirt.
‘Why am I here?’ you cry,
Awaiting for that longed reply.
‘where do I belong?’ you shout,
feeling fear and nothing but doubt.
Pushed, pulled, stretched,
It’s all SO far fetched.
which way do I turn?
what is it I yearn?
This and that, here and there,
I can’t possibly be everywhere.
backing out, turning away,
unsure of where to stay.
‘Come now let us settle the matter’
as it ...

This second poem was sent in with the request to publish it “Name Withheld.” It deals with a person who professes Christ as Lord and Savior but falls into the snare of alcohol. I’m posting it here as a reminder that even in the seeming comfort of the church there are still struggles. People with real problems attend our churches and need to know HOW to find the answer in Jesus Christ.
Drunken Believer
There is a time on Saturday night
When you go home, you look a sight.
You went out, you had some fun
You drank a bit, in fact a ton.
Pub to pub, vision blurred
Words you spoke, they were slurred.
Did I trip? Did I fall?
You don’t know, you forgot it all.
Now you’re torn, what to do?
You love God, that they knew!
You go to Church the very next day,
Will they know? What will they say?
The sermons over, it is done,
You ...

Constant Battle
A constant battle day and night
Will I eat or will I fight.
One skipped meal turns into two,
Not one bite, not even a chew.
My stomach’s hungry, but I won’t cave,
I’m holding fast, not going to waive.
Can you hear that faint grumble,
Soon to be a real loud rumble.
I need more fuel, its telling me,
Crying out, longing to be free.
I restrict, I refrain
Listen to me I am your brain.
I’m in control, I’m in charge
No more butter, no more marge.
This is me, it’s all I know
I’m not putting on a show.
They don’t get it, don’t understand,
It’s a fight, nothing planned.
I don’t want ...
