Just how important is the NAME of the Lord?

This verse tells us that the NAME of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are saved.

Did you ever play tag when you were a kid? Usually there was at least one spot called "base" where you could run to and rest. When you were at the base, you were safe. There was no fear of being tagged or gotten, no matter how close the other players were. Base meant safety.

That's the way God's NAME is for His people. It's more than a simple mystical talisman or magic word. The NAME of Jesus is powerful. According to Mark 16, in His NAME we can cast out devils, speak with new tongues, be delivered from the danger of serpents and poison and bring healing to those who are sick. It was the NAME of Jesus that brought healing to many sick throughout the book of Acts.

Why shrink back from it? Are you afraid of being mocked or scorned by those who do not honor the NAME? One day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess at the sounding of the NAME of Jesus. Call out His NAME when you are in trouble. Ask Him to put His NAME upon you. Speak it. Pray it. Think it. The NAME of Jesus is your safety.
