Have you ever been in a situation where you felt totally out of control? We talk about people as being more or less controlling than others, but when it comes right down to it, there’s not that many people who like to get on the back of a mad bull and ride it. We all like to have a certain sense of stability and, well, control. But God sometimes allows us to go through these times of utter turmoil in order to manifest His grace to us there.
The example here is of sailors in ships. Now there’s a picture of being helpless. Wouldn’t you like to be not just in a modern vessel but a small wooden boat (circa several hundred years B.C.) in the middle of the sea with a severe storm blowing all around you? You watch the waves as they pile up ...

God’s grace extends even to drug addicts. Although this is not uniquely what the psalmist was describing in this passage, there are a lot of similarities which are worth considering. If you are caught in the bondage of drug addiction, you are in a prison which seems like it HAS gates of brass and bars of iron. Because of your foolish actions and sin, you are afflicted. What is the affliction? Specifically, that you abhor all kinds of food, things that are really good for you. Your appetites are twisted by the controlling force of the drugs. Your life ebbs away from you until you are nearer the gates of death than the realm of life.
“What can I do?!?” you might ask. Cry out to Jesus! He will save you out of your trouble. He doesn’t just have the key to the lock, He will ...

Praise God for His grace to us! Here we are told that God is a filler and a satisfier. Luke 1:53 mentions this truth again when it says, “He has filled the hungry with good things, but the rich he has sent away empty.” God is always looking for a hole to fill. He looks for emptiness so He can manifest His glory. He specializes in finding people who are broken, gutted and left for dead in order to raise them to newness of life.
Sometimes God has to bring about our captivity before He can truly set us free. In our rebellion, we are really slaves, slaves to sin and slaves to our passions. By allowing us to enter into captivity, God is graciously letting us glimpse what our eternal future would be like without Him. Darkness, death, and bondage are where we are headed ...

Click to read: Psalm 107:1-7
Psalm 107 is a chapter which is full of examples of God’s grace toward mankind. This first section describes how He takes care of those whom He has redeemed. First, God is able to gather His people. No matter how far they have been scattered or whether or not they have lost track of one another, God knows. Second, He is able to give proper guidance. He does not lead His people by any old way available. God’s guidance is not the path of least resistance. Instead, He leads His people by the -right- way, the best way, His way.
How do we receive this grace? We simply must cry out to Him. When you have been driven from your place and are separated from others, cry out to Him who gathers people together. When you are lost, cry out to Him who gives guidance. When ...

The grace of God comes to us in many ways. For Peter, it was the simple sound of a rooster crowing. Think about it. Peter had grown up in Israel and heard more roosters crow than most of will ever hear. It was nothing new, nor was it special in and of itself. But this time, a common occurence was anointed by God to prick through the veil of denial which separated Peter from his Savior.
That’s the way God is. He’s always using common things to accomplish mighty works. He used a rod with Moses. He used a sling with David. He used a garment (mantle) with Elijah. He has even used shadows and handkerchiefs. It’s simply one of His methods of letting us know that He cares in a way that will reach us at the time we need to hear it.
So let Him ...
