But when you do give anything, give it out of love and be cheerful about it. Because that is how God gives. Test Him yourself, it doesn’t have to be money, it can be time, or whatever resource you have available.  Give what you have to whoever you feel God is asking you to give to. It could be the church, or the little old lady down the street, or your cousin Larry.  God is faithful, and always keeps his promises.  And with that in mind, you can tithe and glorify the Lord, establish trust in God, and be able to look for His other promises in the Bible, ultimately, further developing your relationship with God. 

God doesn’t force you to come to him, he calls to you, and you come if you want to. Tithing is a call. Let it go unanswered if you want, the only punishment is that you miss out on something really great.  God is love, and nothing that comes out of love is bad for you.

I think the problem is when New Testament churches want to make Old Testament tithing a law. I know the arguments and have heard sermons all my life on how people are “under a curse” because they are not tithing. I just don’t see the curse of the Law on a believer since Christ has redeemed us FROM the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us (Gal 3).

What you need to consider is, if God really owns it all, and if I’m really a steward of His resources, what should my giving be? And focus on giving out of a heart of gratitude and with cheerfulness in your heart that you can participate in His work by doing so.

(of your income i assume, correct me if i’m wrong please.) So if you don’t have an income for a while do you stop tithing or do you tithe something else, and if it’s something else what would it be?
