One of those sights which provokes sadness in a universal way is the picture of a field full of crops which have been blighted by drought. Just recently I tried to transplant some vegetables which were not growing in the proper place. After moving them, I gave them water and felt I had been careful. The next day, I returned home from work to find all of the transplants wilted. What a sad sight indeed! Yet this is not the case for the person who follows after God and delights in His law. The promise is that “his leaf also shall not wither.”
What does it mean for your leaf to stay fresh and not wither? The leaves of a plant are a chief source of nutrition. They take sunlight and produce energy. The plant uses this energy to allow it to produce fruit. Leaves also can absorb moisture which can aid in providing life giving water to the entire plant. A healthy leaf is usually indicative of a healthy plant. So if your leaf does not wither, it means that God is providing ALL (ALL!) of your needs.
That’s a tall order in the minds of most people. But we serve a big God. Do you believe that God is able to provide all of your needs so that you go lacking in nothing? If you do, then delight yourself in His law. Ask Him to make good on His promises in His Word. You won’t catch God by surprise. He’s been waiting for you to trust Him.
