So what’s a person to do? Does God simply take all the “fun” out of life? The person spoken of here does not do any of the things that sinful men would describe as fun. Does that mean he lacks fun? Not at all. God replaces sinful and morally degrading pleasure with true joys. He is able to take a man’s heart and make it a heart that takes pleasure in godly things. I mean, think about when you were not a believer. Did you ever think that meditating on the Bible could be fun? Did you ever look at people who did not live a sinful life and wonder what they really did for pleasure?
One of the true delights of a child of God is to think about His Word, to meditate on it, to have one’s mind sharpened by the wisdom and understanding that is found within its pages. But you cannot expect to simply pick up the Bible the first day and be proficient in something that takes some practice. Like any skill, meditating on the Word of God requires that you spend some time practicing it. It requires that you discipline your mind so that it does not wander aimlessly. As you grow in this, your mind will be able to behold the world around you while staying in a frame of reference with the mind and Spirit of God.
This is one of the real steps and breakthroughs in learning to walk with God. Meditate on His Word. Find a verse you like or even a verse you do not understand and spend time chewing it over in your mind. Think about it. Ponder it. Your mind will be changed, and your life will become blessed.
