Rules, Rulers and Rights

Romans 12 Grace and mercy are not an end to rules for conduct or an evidence that we are living perfect lives. Grace and mercy are reasons for us to obey God and the means by which God changes our hearts (the goodness of God leads you to repentance). The will of God is related to our sanctification, is related to finding our place in the body, and is something that we can know more of as we are changed in our minds. “Be not overcome of evil” ties into ch 13 — “rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.” Romans 13 Paul deals here with our relationship to the outside world. Paul wrote this while living under Roman leadership and government. He knew that there are wicked rulers. Paul did … Read entire article »

ICCM 2019 Notes and Audio

Last month my wife and I were privileged to speak at ICCM.  If you would like to read through the PDFs of the slideshow while listening to the audio, you can find those here. Please note:  the audio for the second session is choppy due to issues with the original recording.  You can hear most of the talk, but occasionally parts of words drop or skip. Eat, Drink and Be Mary

Eat, Drink and Be Mary

Each year we find ourselves in the largest holiday season of the year.  Each year, many of us find ourselves worn out. For most of my life, I’ve seen the tug of war between church and commerce.  I’ve read sales slogan after sales slogan.  I’ve heard sermon after skit after song on remembering the “Reason for the Season.” It’s hard to deny that we are in an extra season of tension in our country.  The economy has … Read entire article »

Noon Echoes

Noon Echoes

The alarm clock blared for the second time.  Nancy reached over and found the button while groggily lifting her head from the pillow.  Morning was here again.  Yawning, she shuffled across the cool hard floor and found her way to the restroom.  Last night’s coffee had to go somewhere.  Morning coffee would soon be coming to take its place. Two cups and a stiff bagel later, she was on her way to work.  Cars appeared and … Read entire article »

Teaching My Family to Pray – UPDATED

Yesterday during the morning hours, I felt that God was speaking to me about my country and my family.  In particular, the Spirit spoke to me that things are going to get much worse in this country.  My responsibility is to teach my family how to pray. Our family has been having family devotions for years and years, so the concept of praying in our family is not new.  But I believe that there is much more for my family to learn about prayer, especially in light of the Word I heard. You see, in Ezekiel, God told the prophet that He was looking for a man to make up the hedge and stand in the gap for the land, but He could not find one.  The thought occurred to me, if … Read entire article »

Using Visual Cues to Memorize Scripture

Recently, I have been teaching a scripture memorization class at my local church.  In the process, I spent more time on using visual tools or cues to help memorize Bible passages.  I wanted to share some of the pictures we have been using.  These were all drawn “on the spot.”  They aren’t perfect.  They work for me.  The reason I’m sharing them is to spur you on to either use them yourself or draw your own pictures. The image gallery has the scripture references below each image when you view it.  However, you may wish to print this basic overview for matching up the pictures with the verses.  The people in this class wanted to memorize Romans 8.  They chose the King James Version as they were more familiar with it … Read entire article »

What to Do When You Don’t Know What to Do

“I need direction.” “I don’t know which decision to make.” “I feel like I’m in a fog and don’t know how to get out!” Do you ever feel that way? Most of us have — more than once. In fact, decision making is one of the toughest areas of life that we deal with, and rightly so because decisions can have long lasting consequences. … Read entire article »

What is Spiritual Warfare? My Thoughts on Fighting the Devil.

Today is National Day of Prayer in America, they are voting for a Prime Minister in Great Britain and I received an early morning phone call from a good friend. With plenty of sleep in my voice I answered the phone after checking the caller I.D. He had been praying for me this morning and wanted to tell me what God had told him for me. “No matter what happened, I was in a battle.” That was all, then with very little small talk, back off of the phone. … Read entire article »

An Introduction to Who God Is

Once you have come to know God through His Son Jesus, you will want to learn as much about Him as possible. The only way to please God is to know what He likes and what He doesn’t like. And the only way to know that is to learn about God’s character and essential being. … Read entire article »
