Finally, this psalm reminds us that we should be thankful to God because of His perspective. He is, after all, the God of heaven. His viewpoint is complete. His understanding lacks nothing. He is not simply a deity over a small portion of all that exists. No, we are stewards over small matters, and at best we struggle with fulfilling our jobs perfectly. But He is the God of the whole universe.
As the God of heaven, He is responsible for it all. Every day, every second He watches, guides, rules and governs the entire universe. As the God of heaven, He is merciful in His deailings with all of creation. We see His mercy mostly in ways that relate to us as human beings. But He is merciful in His dealing with animals, plants and all that is. One day He will answer the cry of the earth which groans under the weight and burden of sin. Creation was made subject to futility and decay because of our sin. But one day, God will mercifully wipe out the blot of that decay forever. He will create a new heaven and new earth in which dwells righteousness.
I so want to be a part of that. Do you? If so, be thankful to the God of heaven, for His mercy endures forever!
