The book of Romans asks, “If God be for us, who can be against us?” This passage is a good example of that, and it is yet another reason why we should give God thanks. The same event which marked salvation for the people of God became the destruction of their enemies. After opening up the Red Sea, the children of Israel still had to do something. They had to walk forward. They had to go through what very well could have been a frightening salvation. Ask yourself if you would feel comfortable walking through a valley which had walls not made of granite but of water. No, this salvation experience was their baptism. It was a cutting off point between the children of Israel and their past life as slaves.
Then, before they had yet gotten through the sea, the Egyptian army immediately rushed forward to pursue the Israelites. Oh, how ignorant the enemy is. The enemies of God rush forward, spurred on by unbridled emotions, by greed, by anger, by blind rage at times. God is sovereign over their actions and emotions and works things according to His purpose. They knew things were starting to get hairy when all of a sudden their wheels began to come off their chariots (see Exodus 14:23-25).
Just remember, because the enemy is pursuing you does not mean you are about to be snared. God is simply leading your enemies into a trap. He works salvation for His people. Always.
