Another benefit that came from the battle with Sihon and Og was land. We always want to spiritualize things. However, if you look at the Old Testament, God was so concerned with giving land to His people. He created dry land, planted a garden and gave it to Adam and Eve as a stewardship. He promised Abraham land. He brought Israel out of Egypt back into “the land.” So much of the battles and covenants and promises had to do with a very earthly (literally) substance: land.
Here, God gave to Israel the land of these two kings. (For those of you who have forgotten your geography, this land is EAST of the Jordan River. Ask yourself what is going on there today.) In giving them land, God was providing them with a place to live, a place to rest, a place to build homes and plant vineyards. This was a place that they could call THEIR OWN after living as slaves in the land of the Egyptians. That land was not their own.
Whatever battle you are going through, do not fail to remember that God has land for you after the battle is over. Yes, it may be a more spiritual version: it could be territory in your family, your job or your health. But don’t forget that God is still in the business of giving away land to those He loves.
